The palace
Water palace of the late renaissance, 1595 build for Peter Rantzau, three connecting long houses with four corner towers. 1759 transfer of the estate to the merchant and later Danish treasurer and count Heinrich Carl Schimmelmann, who not only redecorated the palace in the style of the time but also changed the appendant village Woldenhorn (now Ahrensburg) into a small residence. The core of the palace ground has been preserved.
The collections
The palace inventory from the 18. to the mid-19.century has tight connection with the Schimmelmann family and its Reventlou-circle. The collection preserves the living character of the rooms.
The palace represents in furniture, art and everyday item of all kinds, ovens, panels, prisms crowns etc. Schleswig-Holstein's manor house culture in the 18 to 19.century. Wonderful furniture mostly French and English; many porcelain collections (Meißen), big painting and portrait collections; splendour horse harness and much more.
Wedding at the palace
twice a month the palace closes its doors to the visitors - every Friday morning registry office marriages take place. Information and bookings at the registry office Ahrensburg.
