Immigrants from Scandinavia
Between 450 millions and 1,9 billions years old are the 'immigrants' from Scandinavia. During the Ice Age the glaciers came to Northern Germany and formed the diverse Stormarner countryside. 10.000 years ago after the deglaciation lakes and moor basins, valleys of Alster, Trave, Beste and Bille emerged.
The foundlings are mute witnesses of this time. At a wooded area of Grabau one can visit more than 30 exepemplars. A presentation board gives information about this place.

Around 5,5 tons brings this menhir onto the scale.
Humans have used foundlings since the Stone Age. The big ones for grave facilities, foundations, bridges or quaysides. The smaller ones for walls and for road building.
