The village Trittau is being first mentioned as 'aqua Trutauen' in the year 1167. During the Thirty-Year-War the captains Tilly and Wallenstein stayed here as the occupying power with an army of up to 40.000 soldiers. Well worth seeing is still today the Napoleon Bridge.

The department Trittau exits today of 10 single villages. Among others is also Hohenfelde, the smallest community of the district Stormarn. The village Trittau constitutes the centre of the department.

Because of this, special capacities for the areas administration, trade and industry are the result. Together with the Wirtschafts- und Aufbaugesellschaft Stormarn (Economyy and development company) a modern industrial area was created.
The community's centre presents itself to the visitor as lively and modern.  A multitude of attractive shops forms the picture of the village. Sport fans can choose from a great offer of active clubs.

This is especially true for the community's culture. The Trittauer watermill has been a culture centre that is active beyond its borders for a long time. Aficionados visit the Easter spring-market and enjoy the offers of the crafts market.

Nature lovers will find here the district's biggest nature reserve. The Hahnheide has a size of ca. 14ha and has many walking paths.
On the big Hahnheider hill is the Hahnheider Tower located. As a landmark it is Schleswig-Holstein's highest situated observation deck.
